A representative of Rogers Park Taproom and Coffeehouse was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Chicago’s request.
According to the article, “Rogers Park Taproom and Coffeehouse is opening this spring at 1615 W. Howard St. It is taking over the longtime home of Sol Cafe, which closed over the summer after 10 years in business. The bar-cafe is from Neighborhood Taprooms group, which includes Lakeview Taproom and Coffeehouse, Lincoln Square Taproom, and Uptown Taproom.”
“The Uptown location shares a landlord with the former Sol Cafe space on Howard Street, Neighborhood Taprooms founder Andrew Pillman said. When the Howard Street space became available, the landlord asked Pillman if he would be interested in bringing his concept further north.”
“After learning more about Howard Street, Pillman decided his business could fill a need in the neighborhood after the loss of Sol Cafe and Howard Street Brewing Co., which neighbored Sol Cafe and closed in December. Pillman said he is hoping to provide an amenity neighbors lost with the closure of the two local businesses.”
“The Howard Street business will be more coffee shop than taproom to start, and it will follow a new model for Neighborhood Taprooms that debuted recently at the Lakeview location. Rogers Park Taproom and Coffee House will serve locally brewed Hexe Coffee and will offer breakfast and lunch menus, Pillman said. Like its sister businesses, there will also be a beer and cocktail menu.”
“The business could eventually expand into dinner service, which is offered at other locations. Pillman was also offered the Howard Street Brewing Co. space but decided to focus on the former cafe space, knowing there is room to grow, he said.”
