A brand new taproom and eatery called Uptown Taproom is making its debut in Uptown, located at 1265 W. Wilson Ave.
This will be the third taproom for owner Andrew Pillman, who also owns Lakeview Taproom and Lincoln Square Taproom. Now, the founder of Neighborhood Taprooms LLC is getting ready to transform the former home of The Godfather’s Famous Pizza, which closed in 2018 after 52 years in business. Before Pillman can open this new taproom, which Pillman tells Block Club Chicago he hopes to be sometime in Fall 2022, he has to find a new home for the giant pizza oven that currently sits in the center of the building.
“I just don’t want to see it scrapped,” Pillman tells Block Club Chicago. “We just want to see it running and [do] whatever we can to keep these ovens going. I’d love to give it away locally, but if someone wants to haul it across the country, that’s OK, too.”
When Pillman is able to find a worthy owner for this pizza oven and finally opens his third Chicago taproom, guests will have a lot to look forward to. Uptown Taproom will have an event space, cafe seating along Wilson Avenue, a patio, and a side stage for comedy nights and live music. Unlike any of the other sister taprooms, this one will feature a kitchen and a 30-foot-long bar where more than 90 percent of the beers on tap will be sourced from Chicago and the surrounding areas.
“We want to offer something else to the neighborhood, but on a smaller scale,” Pillman says. “It will be an intimate atmosphere.”
