According to a recent article from Evanston Now, the owner of Pono Ono and Picnic Carryout will soon open a new deli inside the former Golden Olympic Restaurant at 1608 Chicago Ave.
A representative of the new deli did not immediately respond to What Now Chicago’s request for comment.
While an official name for the deli or its opening date has yet to be confirmed, specifics as to timing, menu, decor, and name for the deli will be released in the next few weeks, according to Evanston Now’s article.
The owner behind all three establishments, the new deli, Pono Ono, and Picnic is Jack DeMar.
Pono Ono can be described as a beacon of Hawaiian cuisine. With a commitment to sustainability, authenticity, and a passion for flavorful creations, Pono Ono stands as a fast-casual poke shop that has a mission to encapsulate the true spirit of “pono” by sourcing sustainable fish, organic produce, and crafting poke dishes while honoring the traditions of the Pacific islands.
Their menu consists primarily of three sections: signature poke bowls, build-your-own bowl options, and fried chicken bowls. Pono Ono’s essence is embodied in its name, which reflects the Hawaiian concept of “pono” – a term encompassing righteousness, balance, and harmony, according to Downtown Evanston.
Adding to Jack’s experience in the industry is Picnic carryout. At Picnic, the philosophy is simple – to deliver chef-crafted bowls, wraps, and salads that celebrate the beauty of plant-focused cuisine, whether you’re a dedicated herbivore or a curious Epicurean.
Leafy greens find their spotlight in the “Leafy Greens” section of their menu, accompanied by whole grains, desserts, and an array of sides and spreads to top off your bowl. Patrons can enjoy their carryout option, starting with a foundation of nutrient-rich grains and greens, diners are then invited to explore the “best vegetable-forward” options, embellish their creation with a protein of choice, and culminate the symphony of flavors with a homemade dressing that ties the elements together.
For those seeking a communal culinary adventure, Picnic Carryout presents their “Picnic Platters” – an embodiment of vibrant, crowd-pleasing bites that promise a healthful journey for the palate. Designed as a visual and gustatory delight, these platters epitomize the essence of sharing, offering a colorful spread that is as enticing as it is nourishing, according to their website.
