An official opening date has not been confirmed as of yet, but according to Chicago’s Food Chat forum, it will likely be sometime in September.

Chicago Eater’s article states that Field’s will be framing Dawn as an homage to its predecessor while bringing a Southern brunch vibe as well. The menu will have Southern comfort food staples like fried catfish, grits, fried green tomatoes, and breakfast favorites such as waffles, French toast, potatoes, bacon, and eggs. For those looking to indulge in a refreshing drink, a selection of cocktails will also be on the menu.

While preserving the essence of traditional Southern cuisine, Racquel also embraces culinary trends and innovations. In addition to the classic Southern fare, guests can expect to see unexpected delights like avocado toast, bacon flights, and homemade pastries boasting inventive waffle or French toast combinations.

For those that are unfamiliar with Piccolo Mondo, they are an Italian restaurant that served Hyde Park for an impressive 37 years before closing its doors in November. Recognizing the significance of the site, Fields sought the blessing and support of Piccolo Mondo’s former owner, Noberto Zas, and his family. Grateful for their encouragement, she hopes to pay homage to the previous establishment by incorporating some of its recipes into Dawn’s menu, a gesture of respect to the community’s culinary history.
