The company’s second location will eventually move into one of the tallest buildings in the country at an unknown time. Urbanspace’s website notes the new site is expected to open in late Fall 2022, but delays have pushed the opening date back several times, according to Eater Chicago. The delay comes at the same time as the company’s first Chicago outpost at 15 W. Washington Street struggles with tenant closures. A few recent tenants to back out of its Washington space include Roberta’s Pizza, Isla Pilipina, Edzo’s Burger Shop, and Bianca’s BBQ.

While the first Chicago Urbanspace struggles with its tenants, the format proves popular with Chicagoans. There are still a few tenants available from the Washington Street ghost kitchen, including Budlong, Spanglish, Stan’s Donuts, and Keadkao Express. It’s unclear which brands will be available at the new Urbanspace in Willis Tower, but it will join other current eateries already within the tower, such as Shake Shack, Brown Bag Seafood Company, Rick Bayless Tortazo, and many others.

“Urbanspace curates immersive public markets where creativity, entrepreneurship, and community flourish,” according to the company’s website. “We imagine a network of marketplaces where communities can gather and share in local culture and cuisine; a platform for entrepreneurial growth; a place where adventurous consumers can play an active role in creating their local retail landscape.”
