Patel has lived in Schererville for the last 20 years and he’s excited to bring the brand to the community. The plans have actually been in the works for a while, Patel shared during a phone interview with What Now Chicago, but pandemic-related delays have prevented things from moving quickly. Patel also is a part owner and operator of a local Dunkin’.

Founded by Sahar Sander, the first Naf Naf Grill opened in Naperville in 2009. Today, the brand has expanded throughout the Midwest and to the East Coast.

If you haven’t had the chance to try Naf Naf Grill just yet, Patel recommends the falafel, which is hand-crafted with fresh chickpeas, onions, peppers, spices, and herbs. The brand’s customizable menu allows patrons to build their own pita or bowl. Chicken shwarma and steak are on the menu, and you won’t want to skip the accompanying sauces like tahini, garlic sauce, or s’khug, a blend of jalapenos, red pepper, garlic, and cumin.

If all goes well with the Schererville location, Patel says he and Shah may consider opening a second location in Crown Point or another nearby town.
