The company’s newest location will move into a vacant space previously used as a laundromat, according to Block Club Chicago. Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa tells the publication that restaurant officials approached the 35th Ward office about the matter a few months ago and received a permit to build out the space at the beginning of December, according to city records. Chicago Cityscape was the first to report on the permit. The exact opening date is unknown.

More than 51 years later, the family-owned pizza restaurant is still considered one of the best deep dishes in Chicago. Lou Malnati opened his first pizzeria in Lincolnwood with his wife, Jean. Now the chain has 79 locations in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, with the majority in Illinois. The new Lou Malnati’s moving into the former home of Scrub-A-Dub proves the company hopes the move will bring more life to the building, which has been vacant since last year.

“We want to have contiguous shopping districts, and we want to make sure Fullerton is developed in a way that helps support local businesses,” Ramirez-Rosa tells Block Club Chicago. “I’m happy to see a vacant building utilized and happy to see a Chicago business with a long history find a new home in the 35th Ward.”
