While an official opening date has yet to be released, a mother-and-daughter duo of Dena Maldonado and Susan Luisi will be behind Cafe on the Grove.

The 2,948-square-foot storefront is poised to shed its previous identity, with the 1950s-style decor having been stripped away to pave the way for a sophisticated transformation. A substantial investment, approximately $500,000, has been earmarked for the build-out process. As the mother-daughter team endeavors to shape their vision, they are embarking on a comprehensive refurbishment that spans aesthetics and functionality.

To alleviate the financial strain of the ambitious undertaking, Luisi and Maldonado pursued a city restaurant incentive, which was granted approval by the city council. This program offers a lifeline by refunding a portion of the building fees and easing the burden of food and beverage taxes (40% after the first year, 20% after the second, and 10% after the third). Additionally, the incentive includes a grant for both the facade and interior, amounting to $10,000. This financial assistance is poised to cover essential elements such as signage and an exquisite etched glass sliding partition for a private room.

According to LoopNet, 2110-2180 Plum Grove Road was originally built in 1980. It is listed as having 14 stores and is approximately one mile away from Highway 53.

Luisi and Maldonado bring diverse expertise to this venture. They are the proprietors of The Goddard School in Schaumburg, an early childhood daycare and school. Maldonado’s resume boasts of a background in the restaurant and hospitality sector, having previously contributed her talents to establishments such as Wildberry Cafe and Westwood Tavern in Schaumburg, where she held the position of sales and catering manager.

Café on the Grove’s enticing menu promises to tantalize with an array of traditional breakfast and lunch options. From classic “eggs your way” and omelets to Benedicts, hearty skillets, and a medley of pancakes, crepes, waffles, and French toast, every craving is poised to be satisfied. For lunch options, their menu will be created to encompass burgers, sandwiches, wraps, tacos, and an array of salads, according to Daily Herald’s article.
