Leading the project, Mavrek Development bought the property in January of 2023 and started construction on the existing structure, which will include four apartment units above on the second and third floors of the building. The apartments will have four-bedroom residences, which have been designed to include a unique two-level layout that features 20-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, and high-end appliances.

Located at 935 W. Webster Ave, the ground floor of the building will consist of various types of retail spaces including Sushi Taku, which will use 4,000 square feet to build out the restaurant. The sushi restaurant owned by Tom Li has two other locations in the city. Li’s first Sushi Taku location in Wicker Park opened in 2017. Named after a Japanese city near Tokyo, the restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat option priced at $22 for any two rolls and $32 for any three rolls, including unlimited appetizers, nigiri pieces, and maki.

In 2019, the second Sushi Taku opened in Logan Square continuing to serve its 22 signature rolls such as a “green turtle roll” made with avocado and wasabi-topped white tuna, regular rolls (California, Philadelphia, etc.), sashimi, entrees, salads, and desserts.

CEO of Maverk Development, Adam Friedberg stated he is a fan of Sushi Taku and looks forward to the new location opening. “It’s the best all-you-can-eat sushi place in Chicago,” Friedberg told Block Club Chicago.
