Block Club Chicago’s article states that “Campos would like to open the restaurant by next winter and complete the rest of the project by 2026, she said.”

“Owner Soraya Campos, who immigrated from Colombia more than 30 years ago, wants to build a four-story building that includes a new space for Las Tablas, a cultural center, 18 apartment units and outdoor parking at 4920 W. Irving Park Road.”

“The proposed building would fill the current Las Tablas lot as well as the two vacant lots next door. The two buildings next door were demolished in 2022, as reported by Nadig Newspapers.”

“Las Tablas, which was founded in North Center 1991 and has a location in Lakeview, has operated out of a former funeral home in Portage Park since 1999. Campos said she wanted the restaurant to showcase Colombian culture, hosting countless traditional events, live music sessions and dance classes. Now, she’s trying to expand that vision through the cultural center.”

“The new building will be about 13,000 square feet and about 50 feet tall, twice the height of the current building, Gardiner said. The outdoor parking lot would be for tenants and would include 18 spaces.”
