The restaurant was started in Stone Park in 2013 by Temoc Morfin, the son of Don Javi, who immigrated from Guadalajara with his wife and 11 children. The family-owned restaurant has sites in Addison, Bloomingdale, Elgin, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Lincoln Park, Lombard, Oakbrook, Rosemont, Stone Park, Old Town, and Northlake. While the company is owned and operated by Don Javi’s sons, daughters, and grandchildren, it continues to grow, with six new locations coming soon.

While the exact opening dates are unknown, here are the upcoming locations, according to the company’s website. The Romeoville location at 442 Weber Road will replace KFC; The West Chicago location at 280 E. North Avenue will replace Hardees; The Schaumburg location at 650 Mall Drive will replace Taco Bells near the Streets of Woodfield shopping center. Operations Manager Aaron Morfin tells What Now Chicago Schaumburg and West Chicago are coming first and expected to open in a few weeks.

The Bloomingdale location at 201 Lake Street will sit between Saint Paul Evergreen Cemetery and Meacham Grove; The Bensenville location at 1301 Irving Park Road will move into a vacant building; and the Des Plaines location at 3001 Mannheim Road will move to the ground floor of a The Holiday Inn Express & Suites. The new Des Plaines location will replace the already open Rosemont site at 9509 W. Higgins Road, which is only about a mile away, according to the Daily Herald.

The hotel will also welcome another new restaurant called Ostras, a seafood eatery with a Latin flavor. Both of these restaurants are expected to open in the Summer of 2023. Morfin says most of the other upcoming Cilantro Taco Grills are just getting started in terms of development, so exact opening dates are hard to say.
