The new sweet treat shop comes from Brian and Elizabeth Smith, who moved to the area last summer after living in the Caribbean for 15 years, according to the Daily Herald. The couple would sit across from the Craft Beer Store facing Cook Park and admire the bustling community center it was, and eventually, the space became available. Elizabeth tells What Now Chicago she expects to open sometime in the Summer of 2023.

“Something about Libertyville — we fell in love with it,” Elizabeth tells the Daily Herald. “I said, ‘This is it, Brian.’ There’s something about the energy in the community. There are all these activities, and there are kids galore. We would sit across the street at the park. I said, ‘That needs to be a old fashion ice cream shop.’ All of a sudden, the place was for rent. We wanted something our kids eventually could be a part of. This will be a family business for sure — no franchise, just us.”

When the new ice cream shop/ candy store opens, customers can expect a black-and-white tile floor and plenty of dessert classics on the menu, such as shakes and banana splits. The front of the store will feature gourmet ice cream from Homer’s in Wilmette, while the back of the store will have all the candy. Many people are already excited about the new business coming to the area, including Heather Rowe, the village’s economic development manager, who said the Smiths have a lot of enthusiasm for the new endeavor.
