Whether the Avondale lease is for another move or a new location entirely isn’t yet clear; owner Jennie Plasterer was unavailable to comment by press time. But given the restaurant’s success over the past few years, it could go either way. Kitchen 17 first opened in 2013 in Lakeview East, then moved to a bigger location down the street on North Broadway in 2017. The company has since been ramping up its wholesale distribution of its popular deep-dish vegan pizzas, most of which it ships nationally through its website. Earlier this year, Plasterer established a pizza factory in Huntington, Ind., which houses the production and packaging facilities for the company as well as its headquarters.
While Kitchen 17 is best known for its deep-dish dairy-free vegan pizzas, the restaurant also serves veggie burgers; sandwiches featuring sietan — a meat substitute made from gluten — including a gyro and a Philly cheesesteak; and a range of house-made pies, brownies and cakes. The restaurant offers catering, too.
What Now Chicago has reached out to Plasterer and will update this story as it develops.
