The new sweet shop will move into the former home of J Bees Big & Tall, which has moved across the street and became J Bees Sportswear. Now, owner Michael Clayton tells What Now Chicago he expects to open Twisted Dough in about four months, hopefully in early 2023. When it opens, customers can expect gourmet funnel cakes, a pastry bar, and southern fried chicken. Clayton says he plans to serve various sweets such as cinnamon rolls, banana bread pudding, and a customizable ice cream that is rolled right in front of the customer.

This isn’t the first time Clayton has opened a business in Chicago. Before this venture, he and his wife owned and operated a nail salon in River North. Now the business owners are getting ready to open this new sweet shop along a stretch of closed businesses, including Taf 47, Luv Handles, and much more. Hopefully, this new business does more than provide sweet treats to the community of Bronzeville and is the beginning of many new businesses coming to the area.

When the new eatery opens, it will become one of the few places in the area to get fresh, delicious desserts, especially funnel cake. The next closest competitors for Twisted Dough are all north, such as Ain’t She Sweet Cafe and Sweet She Treats. Although there are dozens of fried chicken eateries throughout Chicagoland, none of them have the option to get gourmet funnel cake or homemade ice cream on the side.
