Taco John’s, an international Mexican-inspired fast food chain, is hoping to open a new location in Kenosha at 6303 75th St.
The proposed 2,440-square-foot restaurant will move into the former home of Truckers Purchasing Group, a now vacant building that will be demolished, according to Milwaukee Business Journal. This Taco John’s will be owned and operated by Pentex Restaurant Group, a Fargo, North Dakota-based firm that also owns two HuHot Mongolian Grill locations. If approved, the new restaurant will have two drive-thru lanes and seating for 46 inside, while an additional six more will be able to sit outside.
Taco John’s, founded in 1969 by John Turner, has locations in 22 states across the United States through franchise agreements. In May 2020, the company announced plans to grow throughout southeast Wisconsin by adding 10 to 12 new locations over three to five years. Pentex Restaurant Group also hopes to expand the brand to West Allis, West Milwaukee, and near Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.
In addition to the proposed restaurant, the Kenosha City Planning Department is also considering a new Raising Cane’s adjacent to the new Taco John’s. This would become the second Raising Cane’s in Wisconsin, following the company’s only site in Madison. The proposed Raising Cane’s will be about 3,330 square feet and will have a drive-thru. Both these proposed restaurants will likely open next year if they’re approved.
