Sweetgreen has been busy this year adding new locations in San Diego, Atlanta, New York, and beyond. Our own Hyde Park recently welcomed Sweetgreen to 1500 East 53rd at the beginning of August. And it sounds like Sweetgreen has no plans to stop there. A permit application filed with the City of Chicago indicates the fast-casual brand touting fresh and healthy meals will bring those beloved salads and bowls to 227 E. Ontario St. in Chicago’s Streeterville.

Chicago Cityscape first reported on the plans, and city documents obtained by What Now Chicago confirm the company’s intention to bring a Northwestern-accessible shop to the area. The permit cites planned alternations to a “one story retail space for a new restaurant.” Cityscape reports the healthy brand has likely taken over the space that last housed Epic Burger.

Sweetgreen is an LA-based company that has become known for its salads and grain bowls. The company got its start as a little shop in Washington D.C. promoting fresh, healthy food at a reasonable price point. Today, the brand operates locations in nine states across the country and has the goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2027.

We’re awaiting word of just when the company plans to open the Streeterville store. In the meantime, head over to one of Chicagoland’s existing locations or find Sweetgreen on social media to learn more.
