The owners of Mr. Greek Gyros, a 24-hour counter-serve Greak-American restaurant in Greektown, are opening a new restaurant in New West Side.
While ownership recently applied for a liquor license under the name Mr. Greek Gyros at 1416 W. Taylor Street, these details were not confirmed. Instead, Constantinos Vitogiannis, who has worked at Mr. Greek Gyros as a manager and was the one to apply for the liquor license, confirms with What Now Chicago that this will be a new restaurant, but not Mr. Greek Gyros. Vitogiannis could not provide any additional details regarding the new restaurant, saying it was too early to discuss more information.
Constantinos father, Pete, opened Mr. Greek Gyros at 234 S. Halsted Street and quickly became known as one of the best Greek restaurants in town. It’s uncertain exactly which business this new restaurant will be replacing. While the liquor license application has the business listed as replacing Taylor Trimmers, the restaurant could likely replace the now-closed Peoples Bank at 1410 W. Taylor St.
Regardless of the restaurant’s location, this will be a great opportunity for the Vitogiannis family to expand their reach beyond Greektown. West Taylor Street is a bustling area full of unique bars and restaurants. The new restaurant will also benefit significantly from the visits to the Little Italy Branch Chicago Public Library, which is only a block away. The exact opening date is unknown, but customers can expect to see another new restaurant in the area sometime next year.
