By the end of 2021, Buyk, a New York-based grocery delivery company, had opened seven Chicago-area stores, including locations in Six Corners, Bucktown, Wicker Park, and Ravenswood. Only three month old, Buyk launched in New York City, rapidly expanding to operate 28 stores in the state. Adding to the company’s portfolio, CEO James Walker told Block Club Chicago, the company plans to open 14 additional Chicagoland locations by spring 2022.

How does the service work? Well, unlike the popular Chicago-based Foxtrot chain, which allows for in-person shopping as well as delivery, Buyk stores are not open to the public. Patrons complete their orders online and Buyk delivers, via bicyclists, within 15 minutes at no extra charge. Even better, you won’t find a minimum spend either.

Rather than hiring cashiers and stockers, Buyk hires couriers who fill the orders and bike them over to their destinations. The company is looking to partner with local food brands in order to provide the goods Chicagoans most desire.

The company was Co-Founded by Slava Bocharov and Rodion Shishkov, two entrepreneurs behind Samokat, one of Europe’s fastest-growing ultrafast delivery services.

After Chicago, Walker reportedly has his sights set on D.C. and Boston.
