Owner Stanko Kuzmanovic hopes to replace Yugo Grill, and, more recently, one of his prior ventures, Ruben’s Bar & Grill, later this year. Final approval for the unanimously recommended restaurant is scheduled for the Sept. 12 city council meeting, according to The Daily Herald. The strip mall is also in the process of opening a new Mexican restaurant called Lily’s Taste in the former home of Karol’s Deli at 17 S. Wolf Rd. Owner Elida Mejia was the food service provider at Ruben’s Bar & Grill before it closed earlier this year.

Neither of these proposed restaurants is looking to receive a liquor license or video gambling, making them highly recommended by the city’s planning and zoning board. Kuzmanovic argues this is a perfect location for the restaurant, considering the nearest competition that will serve similar cuisine is in Des Plaines and Elk Grove Village. On top of the highly touted advocacy, city officials were impressed with Mejia’s efforts to open her own sit-down restaurant.

“I think this application should be put in a binder, framed — this is exactly how they should be,” Ward 2 Alderman Patrick Ludvigsen tells the Daily Herald. “I’m impressed. It’s the most complete special-use application I ever saw, so thank you. Good job. If you put as much work into your work as you did this application, you’re going to do very well.”
