A representative of TimeLine Theater was not immediately available to comment upon What Now Chicago’s request.
According to the article, “TimeLine Theater is turning the building at 5035 N. Broadway into a performing arts center complete with a 250-seat theater, exhibit gallery space, and a bar and cafe, theater officials said in a news release. The new venue will double the theater’s seating capacity and is expected to open in early 2026.”
“TimeLine produces stage shows based on historical events that can be tied to current issues, and it usually has a gallery exhibit tied to its plays. Putting on a play and an exhibit is a challenge in its current Lakeview space.”
“The facility will include the theater space, gallery space, programming, and community gathering areas, a rehearsal space visible from Broadway, and a first-floor bar and cafe. Plans call for removing the warehouse building’s classical brick facade and replacing it with a glassy street-facing exterior.”
“Doing so will enliven the space and bring the art inside into conversation with the bustling Broadway thoroughfare, though some preservationists and neighbors balked at the facade renovations. While work on its new home is underway, TimeLine is hosting a series of farewell events at its longtime Lakeview home, including a yard sale.”
