Carmie Cakes is a custom cake company from Michelle Sams, who describes herself as “a woman of God, a wife, a mother of 3, and a self-taught cake artist.” Named after Michelle’s mother, Carmelita “Carmie” Sams, who sadly passed away in 2013, Carmie Cakes is a love letter to the woman who started at all and inspired Michelle to always pursue her dreams.
Michelle had become obsessed with cake decoration since at least 2008, but the passing of her mother inspired Michelle to take a leap of faith and begin a brand new career in pursuit of her own passions. Entirely self-taught, Michelle has spent over a decade mastering the ins and outs of baking, fondant making, and of course construction and design.
Known for creating custom cakes with dazzling designs, Carmie Cakes soon became too popular for its own good. Regularly selling out every single month, it soon became clear to Michelle that she needed to upgrade her operation to meet the gleeful demand of her loyal fans.
Now, to accommodate the growing demand for her creative cake designs, Michelle has just secured the lease for the first brick-and-mortar location of Carmie Cakes. Moving into the space at 158 North York Street in Elmhurst, Carmie Cakes will be opening up right next to the popular York Cinema and will be neighbored by Sweetberry Bowls, PokeBurrito, and a Starbucks. No word has been given on when Michelle plans to open yet, as she is still very early into the process.
