The company’s first location will move in the Historic Vogt Building in Summer 2023, according to the company’s website. The team behind the new brewery consists of a lawyer, Jim Richert, two accountants, Kyle O’Connor and Ed Richert, and a graphic designer, Beckie (Richert) O’Connor. For the head brewer, the family enlisted J.T. Rea, who specializes in traditional German and Belgian styles as well as barrel-aged wild beer. Together the team will offer Banging Gavel Brew’s latest beers paired with delicious food prepared from the kitchen.

The company was formed in 2014 after Jim became very interested in the craft brewery expansion. He and his brother Ed then made their first homebrew, a Belgian Tripel, and branded it “Justice Brewing,” effectively creating more of an interest. Since then, the group has worked with Tinley Park and experts to bring it to this historical site. There was even a point where they launched a bier garden while partnering with local eateries. Now Banging Gavel Brews is gearing up to introduce its permanent location with at least six of its own beers to offer.

“In the spring of 2016, we found a historic landmark building, the Vogt House, in downtown Tinley Park, which seemed like a great fit to open our brewery,” according to the company’s website. “We worked with the village of Tinley Park and experts on this type of project and eventually bought it in the summer of 2017. Since then have partnered with our contractors and architecture firm to preserve the historic site while building the Brew Pub. The project is in the works currently, and we will share various updates with you as we go.”
