Owner Alicia Butron has served her empanadas for nine years from farmer’s markets in downtown Geneva and Aurora. Now, she, along with her husband Oscar and son Carlos, are getting ready to move into Aurora’s restaurant row in a few weeks, according to The Beacon-News. Alice’s Corner, named after the restaurant’s owner, will replace U Samba? towards the end of May 2022. Butron approached the owner of the Brazilian restaurant when she learned they were closing and asked about taking over the space.

In addition to being seen at a couple of farmer’s markets in Chicagoland, Alice’s Corner also offers catering services for any occasion. When the new restaurant opens, guests can expect “a new concept of flavors” from South America. While there will be several different Bolivian dishes at the restaurant, Butron’s home-cooked Bolivian empanadas will be the main feature. This isn’t to be confused with empanadas from other South American countries such as Argentina. Bolivian empanadas are formed and then fried rather than baked.

This permanent space will be a perfect spot for the Butron family to launch their first brick-and-mortar. West New York Street is a bustling area with tons of foot traffic. The new restaurant will be situated around a few other prominent eateries, including Doughballs Pizza, Gillerson’s Grubbery, Beebee’s, and Endiro Coffee. On top of that, Alice’s Corner will be situated just a few blocks away from Hollywood Casino and Paramount Theatre.
